Summary 

From 1 July 2024, the Google Food Ordering integration will only be available if Action Links are included in the menu export provided to Google.  This will allow the transition to the full redirect integration required by 31 January 2025.

When customers use the Order Takeaway or Order Delivery buttons on a GMB card they will no longer place the order on Google's platform, instead buttons embedded with the action link will be available. 

The action link is a URL used to redirect the customer to the business's online ordering page.  The customer order will then be processed on the business's native ordering platform.

Prerequisites

Clients must have an existing integration with Google Food Ordering.

A Polygon Central deployment after 27 August 2024 is required to activate this functionality.

Action Link URLs

Businesses using Polygon Online Ordering will leave the URL fields blank and a default mapped code URL will be included in the menu export containing the sale type and location.

 https://{client_name}.redcatcloud.com.au/universal/initiateOrder?saleType={sale_type}&locationId={recid_plo}

The pickup mapped code will take the customer directly to the ordering menu, with the sale type and location already selected.

The delivery mapped code will have the customer enter their delivery address and then take them to the ordering menu.

Businesses that do not use Redcat native ordering may include their specific URLs.

Configuration

Stores with an existing integration to Google Food Ordering must update their configuration settings in Polygon Central before 1 July 2024.

To do this:

• Access Integrations | Google Food.  Each location with an active integration is listed.
• Choose the Edit icon to open the integration record.
• The existing details for the integration record are already completed, you need to complete the NEW fields indicated in the image below.
  • Pickup Specific URL
    - if left blank it will default to the mapped code for Polygon Online Ordering
    - otherwise enter the URL for the relevant ordering site.
  • Pickup Sale Type
    - PickUp for Polygon installations
    - Web Ordering for Legacy installations.
  • Delivery Specific URL
    - if left blank it will default to the mapped code for Polygon Online Ordering
    - otherwise enter the URL for the relevant ordering site.
• Use the Submit button to save the new configuration. Google menu exports will now include the Action Links.
