Using Label Printers at POS

This article will detail the options available when using label printers for production output with PolygonPOS.

For businesses that specialise in products that are predominately made, mixed or manufactured in the packaging container - think smoothies, bubble tea, frozen yogurt or create your own salad bowls - you can choose to have the production dockets printed on labels to be attached to the container.

You can learn more about programming a production printer in your Polygon POS Management database, including the settings that govern the behavioural changes described in this article here.

Standard Label Format

The label format includes:

  • Order Number
    - sale type identifier and number
    - web menu ordering provider and external order number
  • Item Count
    - item number in this sale / total items in this sale
  • Time
  • Sale Type
  • One parent PLU and instructions per label
instructions that do not fit will continue onto the next label showing the same item count.

Inverse Printing

You may choose to instruct the system to invert the label when printing.  This will essentially have the label print upside down.

You might want this if your labels are branded and you need to orient the label according to the branding.

It is also useful to avoid the staff having to rotate the label before attaching it to the packaging due to the location of the printer.

Include Header on Continued Labels

You may choose to include the header section of the label on each continued label if desired.

Instead of showing only the Item Count, the second and subsequent labels will also include:

  • Order Number
    - sale type identifier and number
    - web menu ordering provider and external order number
  • Time
  • Sale Type

Format Instructions in Two (2) Columns

This functionality is designed for use with PolygonPOS installations, applies only to production output issued directly from the POS, and:

  • Zebra ZD410/411 printers
  • Multi-label - wide format labels

If you have enabled functionality to print the instructions in two columns on the label, the following rules will apply:

  • Instructions will be prefixed with a *
  • Instructions will print a maximum of 12 characters (excess characters will be truncated)
  • The first label for an item will include up to 6 instructions if the Sale Type is included in the header
  • The first label for an item will include up to 8 instructions if the Sale Type is excluded from the header
  • The second and subsequent labels can include up to 12 instructions.

Exclude Sale Type From Header

This functionality is designed for use with PolygonPOS installations, applies only to production output issued directly from the POS, and:

  • Zebra ZD410/411 printers
  • Multi-label - wide format labels

You may choose to exclude the Sale Type from the header section of the label, which will then enable:

  • up to 4 instructions in single-column format
  • up to 8 instructions in two two-column format
