Summary

DoorDash is a technology company facilitating door-to-door delivery via an online ordering platform. Originating in the USA they launched in the Australian market in September 2019.  The integration enables orders placed via DoorDash to be recorded in Polygon Central and sent to the POS.

In March 2024, the original integration was updated to utilise the latest API provided by DoorDash and include their SSIO (self-serve integration onboarding) platform.  The integration now includes a Menu pull from DoorDash instead of the original menu push.

This document will help you onboard and activate your DoorDash integration.

Polygon POS Management Configuration

The Redcat DoorDash integration shares menu data with DoorDash and validates orders received against this data.  Therefore, programming in the BOH must be completed as for Polygon Online Ordering.

PLUs

All PLUs to be sold via DoorDash should:

  • Be tagged as a Customer Ordering PLU
  • Have the relevant Ingredients programmed if further choices or modifications are available for the PLU.  Instructions and modifiers included for the PLU in the DoorDash sale will be validated against this list.
  • Contain a link to the relevant customer ordering image
Note: there may be a delay for new images to be visible to customers as they must pass through an approval process with DoorDash.

Images

DoorDash has provided the following specifications to ensure that images are successfully displayed on the DoorDash menu

  • File size must be less than 2 MB
  • Aspect ratio: Landscape (16:9)
  • File type: .JPG, .JPEG or .PNG
  • Minimum resolution: 1400 x 800px

You can learn more about DoorDash image specifications here.

As the image specifications differ from the optimum image for Polygon Online Ordering, you may assign specific images in the PLUs to be used only for the DoorDash menu export.

To do this a configuration setting is required in Polygon Central, and you will need to talk with your Redcat contact to ensure that it is enabled as these settings are not usually exposed to Admin users.  The setting is in Polygon Central at:

Configuration | Integrations | Doordash : Use DD PLU Image Type.

When enabled, only images specifically assigned to DoorDash will be exported with the menu.  Please note, the image used for Polygon Online Ordering will NOT be used as a fallback image if there is no image assigned specifically for DoorDash - care must be taken to ensure that all relevant PLUs have a DoorDash-specific image assigned.

If this setting is disabled, any DoorDash-specific image assignment will be ignored and the same images assigned for Polygon Online Ordering will be included in the DoorDash menu export.

PLU details

Keypads

Keypads should:

  • Be created, one for each Category of menu items.
  • Be tagged as a Customer Ordering Keypad

A ‘Main’ keypad will need to be created that includes a Keypad Change button to each of the keypads above. This keypad is the one that will be assigned as the integration menu for DoorDash in Polygon Central.  The integration menu assignment is not generally exposed to Admin users and will need to be set by your Redcat contact.  The setting is located:

Publish a Web Menu Update to DoorDash

When programming is complete, ensure an update is published for Web Menu Interfaces and specifically DoorDash.

To do this:Web menu update

  • Access POS Network Updates using the POS Updates button on the toolbar.
  • Choose the Web Menu Interfaces
  • Ensure the DoorDash option is selected.
  • Use the Publish Update to Web Menu Interfaces button to send the data to Polygon Central.

Limitations with the DoorDash Menu Export

Free Choices: DoorDash does not support ‘free choices’ for PLU ingredients.

OLO2: If a choice set has 1 or more free items programmed DoorDash will ignore this and charge for all items in the choiceset.

OLO3: Redcat provides a modified version of choice sets in the menu export.  For example:  If a choice set is "choose 4, 2 are free" two choice sets will be displayed on DoorDash - one for the selection of 2 free choices, and the other for the selection of 2 priced choices.

Pre-Onboarding

Before onboarding your Door Dash Marketplace integration, you need to:

  • At least two (2) days before you want to onboard, complete the Aggreator Integrations Form to allow the Redcat Implementation team to complete the pre-work required.
  • On the day of your onboarding, publish your menu from the Polygon POS Management database.

Onboard the Integration

Now that the setup is finalised, the final step is to complete the SSIO with DoorDash.

Admin users will need to be assigned the following user roles:

  • Config (View)
  • DoorDash Ordering
  • DoorDash View
  • DoorDash Update

You can learn more about User Roles in this article.

Initialising the SSIO

To start the SSIO process:

  • Access Polygon Central | Integrations | DoorDash.
  • Use the Connect to DoorDash button to access your DoorDash portal - you will need to enter your credentials (these must be at Business Admin level).  A list of the stores available for integration from DoorDash will be displayed.
  • Choose the relevant DoorDash store and select the corresponding Redcat location from the Redcat Store drop-down list.
  • Use the Submit button to save.

Initialising the SSIO

The Update Status field listed against the store shows the current status of the integration with one of the following options:

- Menu Requested
A menu pull has been triggered, and DoorDash is validating the menu.

- Menu Qualified
The menu validation has been successful and is ready for preview and activation.

- Menu Block
The menu as it is currently configured cannot be validated by DoorDash. You must investigate, correct the problem and trigger another menu pull.

- Success
The integration has been successfully activated.

Successful integration

Completing the SSIO

Once the DoorDash store has been linked with the corresponding Redcat store further actions are available within the integration connection.

- Trigger DoorDash Menu Pull
This will instruct DoorDash to request a complete menu pull overwriting any existing menu.

- Preview Menu
This button will not be available if the Update Status is Menu Block.
It will open your DoorDash portal and preview your store listing.  Check that store information and trading hours are correct and review the menu to ensure you are happy with it.

- Activate Integration
This button will not be available if the Update Status is Menu Block.
It will instruct DoorDash to turn the integration on.

Activated integration

To complete the SSIO process, you must preview and approve the menu, and activate the integration.  The Update Status will change to Success.

Note: Once the integration process has been started it is not possible to delete the integration record unless the status is listed as Success.

Force Store Offline

The Force Store Offline option is available as an emergency response for crisis situations.

This option will stop Redcat from accepting orders through the SmartOrder processor.  It will NOT stop the customers from placing an order on the DoorDash platform.  For longer outages it is recommended you take the store offline using the DoorDash Merchant Portal – this will remove the store from the ordering platform.

Price Levels

The DoorDash integration can operate at a specified price level if you want DoorDash online orders to utilise a different price point to normal POS sales.

This can be accessed:

  • Polygon Central | Loyalty & Ordering | Price Levels
