End of Day - Blind Balancing

Blind Balancing is where the staff member who is resetting the POS is given no indication of what the expected amounts for each media type should be according to the sales recorded by the POS terminals in the network.  They will simply count the cash and other non-integrated media and enter the figures during the reset process.

Therefore, if you have Blind Balancing enabled, your POS will react a little differently when performing your End of Day procedure.

Trading Reports

These reports are removed from the standard list of Trading Reports available from the Admin menu if Blind Balancing is enabled.

  • POS Area Z-Read
  • POS Section Z-Read (if Sections are in use)
  • POS Terminal Media

POS Exceptions Recorded

Staff are not restricted from running any of the remaining Trading Reports but a reportable POS Exception will be recorded when the reports are run.  While these reports do not detail the media totals, they do provide details of either the items sold or the $ value of sales.

These reports are:

  • Item Report
  • Sales by Hour
  • Sales by 1/2 Hour
  • Food & Beverage Sales Report
  • Sales by PLU Class

Reconciling and Resetting the POS

When reconciling and resetting the POS, the System Amount(s) will be hidden for:

  • Cash
  • Non-integrated Media

Other media types will have 'read only' actual amounts already entered.

  • Integrated EFTPOS
  • Client Accounts
  • Management Accounts
  • Loyalty Redemptions
  • Member Cash
  • Gift Cards

The No Variance button (which mirrors the system amount into the actual amount) is not available on the:

  • POS Area Sales Reset screen
  • POS Section Sales Reset screen
  • Zed Read Amount Update Form (each media type)
