Language selection for kiosk

Use Case

This functionality is available for:

  • any business offering customers the choice of language for system text (not menu items) to ease navigation when using OLO3 customer ordering platforms.

Prerequisites

To utilise the functionality described in this article you will need:
  • Polygon Central with a deployment date of 17 July 2024 or later.
  • Customer ordering platforms utilising MIM and OLO3.

How Do I Set This Up?

To implement Language Translations in your business, contact your account manager or get in touch with us on the numbers below:

Australia 1300 4 REDCAT (1300 473 322)
UK Toll Free 808 0808 189 3396.

Implementation will follow a two (2) step process:

  1. Your Redcat contact will arrange a form for you to provide the translations for the required language.  This is necessary as Google translate has poor translation capabilities in specific circumstances.
  2. Redcat's development team will then insert the translations into your string file.

How Does It Work?

This section will provide more detail on how the language translations affect each of the customer ordering platforms.

App

On first sign-up, members will be prompted by a modal to select a language from all available languages and the app will default to this language until changed.

The member can change the language selection in the app using the More menu:

More | Change Language | [select language] | Apply

Web Ordering

Once signed in, a member can choose or change the language using the Change Language menu option.

The language selection is saved in the browser cache and is therefore not permanent.

Kiosk

For kiosk users:

  • the selected language is displayed on the language button on the welcome screen and this button can be used to display and select from the available language options.
  • from the ordering screen the user can change the language selection using the language option in the bottom left menu.

Considerations

  • The language translation only applies to system or button text.  The language will not be applied to the menu categories or menu items.
  • A language will only be presented in the list of languages available if that language has been inserted into the string file for your system.
  • If the translation is missing for some strings for the language, that string will be shown in the default language (English).
