MIM - How to: Make It A Meal

The concept of one unified 'make it a meal' checkbox doesn’t exist in MIM.

A few methods of creating a 'make it a meal' offer benefits in different areas.

There are two (2) listed below.

Make It A Meal v1

The preferred way to create a “make it a meal” is to have a parent composite item with two separate options: one is the regular version of the item and the second is the combo or meal version.

This requires an unmissable and conscious decision from the customer.  The combo item version should be identical to the regular version but with additional choice sets.

It would be programmed like this:

Parent Burger Composite Item:
  • Varieties:
    • Regular Burger
      • Choice sets
        • [Optional] Choice of Bun
    • Combo Burger:
      • Choice sets
        • [Optional] Choice of Bun
        • [Required] Choice of Chips
        • [Required] Choice of Drink

Make It A Meal v2

This approach should be used less, but if all the 'make it a meal' options are the same across the whole menu this approach requires less maintenance.

This can be accomplished by creating a dummy 'make it a meal' PLU in Polygon POS Management and assigning the choice sets you want to that item.  The benefit of doing this is that your meal options are the same across the entire menu and only need to be maintained in one place due to the reusability of the dummy item.

It would be programmed like this:

Parent Burger PLU:
  • Choice sets:
    • [Optional] Make it a Meal:
      • Make it a Meal (Dummy Item):
        • Choice sets:
          • [Required] Choice of Chips
          • [Required] Choice of Drink

Make It A Meal with Sizes

A 'make it a meal' with sizes is similar to the examples detailed above.

This can be achieved by including composite items in your child choice sets, or by putting all possible size varieties inside of the choice set.
