POS Default Sale Types (User Guide)

This article will provide details on the use of Default Sale Types within Polygon POS.

Using Default POS Sale Types

Changing to Another Sale Type

Summary

POS Default Sale Types are designed to simplify the ordering process for both employees and customers.  When a POS is used for only one sale type, such as Drive-Through, the need to reselect the sale type for every order is repetitive and time-consuming.
When using the functionality of POS Default Sale Types, employees can save time and reduce input errors by defaulting to a configured sales type, eliminating the need to choose it for every order. This translates into faster service and improved user experience for the employees.

Using Default POS Sale Types

If a default POS Sale Type has been assigned to a POS Terminal, the POS Staff member will be presented with the prompt(s) relevant for that Sale Type as soon as the sale is opened and:
  • a PLU button is selected, or
  • a Category button is selected
Prompt(s) will not be triggered immediately upon log in as the POS staff member may be wishing to access toolbar buttons, for instance, to view sales or access Admin functions.
For example, your POS terminal is set with the default sale type 'Dine In' and configured to prompt for both a table number and the number of covers (pax).  In this instance the workflow at the POS could look like this: log in, select a category button, automatic prompt for table number followed by an automatic prompt for pax, and continue to enter the required PLUs.  The sale is recorded with the Dine In sale type.

Changing to another Sale Type

Before the sale is saved or finalised, the POS Staff member can use a programmed Set POS Sale Type button to change to an alternate sale type if required.
If you do this, the prompt(s) applicable to the new sale type will be presented so that all relevant information is collected.
For example, the customer in the scenario above changes their mind and decides to take the Tapas 'to go'.  You simply use the preprogrammed Takeaway sale type button and enter the Customer Name (as this is the configured requirement for your Takeaway sale type).  The sale will be changed from Dine In to Takeaway.
