Printer Sets (Overview)

Summary

The Printer Sets feature enables restaurant managers to assign orders and items to printers assigned to working stations based on pre-defined configurations and sale type filtering.  This feature facilitates load balancing through smart printer management while empowering staff to enable/disable printers effortlessly through the POS.

Printer Sets are designed to enhance efficiency and productivity by reducing dependency on the KMS, enabling load balancing, and simplifying printer setup and configurations.



What are the key features of Printer Sets? 

  • Optimised Load Balancing: Printer Sets can automatically distribute printing tasks across all available printers in a set, ensuring a balanced workload and preventing any single station from becoming overloaded.
  • Effortless Printer Management: Staff can easily enable or disable printers directly through the POS, allowing them to adapt printing configurations quickly based on kitchen traffic or specific requirements.
  • Sale-Specific Job Filtering: This feature enables you to filter printing jobs based on sale type, allowing you to assign different types of orders to different printers, and streamlining order processing.
  • Intelligent Device Targeting: When multiple devices are assigned to the same role, Printer Sets keeps track of the last device used to send a job and routes the next job to the next available device in the set, ensuring efficient utilisation of available resources.
  • Balanced Order Distribution: This feature enables you to print orders in an alternating manner across all available printers, effectively distributing the workload and preventing any single printer from becoming overwhelmed.


Use Cases

Printer Sets are available for businesses that want to:
  • Apply sale type filtering to production printers
  • Assign production categories to peripherals at HQ level
  • Apply round-robin behaviour (load balancing) across devices assigned to the same printer set.
  • Allow staff at POS to remove a printer from the round-robin during lower volume trade periods and include it again when volume and staffing levels increase.


Prerequisites

To utilise Printer Sets, the following versions are required.  It is supported for Polygon POS installations only.
  • Polygon POS Management: 2311.29.1 or later 
  • Polygon POS Terminal: 2312.1.2 or later
