Production categories are how we group items when sending to production devices; this could be a screen or printer.
In this video we will cover how to create a Production Category and assign an item to it.
NOTE: Creating Production Categories is completed in POS Management, if you are a HQ driven database the creation of these and assignment to PLUs must be completed at the HQ level.
Assigning Production Categories to a production device is done on a device level in the database for each location and must be completed before an item is sold or it won't be printed or displayed.
Please note: the narration in the above video regarding the configuration settings Only print with parent item relates to legacy POS (SmartPOS).
For PolygonPOS, the Only print with parent item setting allows any instruction items in the category to be 'attached' to it's parent item and sent to the same production device as that parent item. The Production Category that contains these instruction items should not be assigned to the production device. Only the parent items need to be assigned.
If there is a production device that must always receive these instructions regardless of whether the parent item is assigned or not, then the category can be assigned as per normal and this will force the instruction to always print.
